The job to solve.
Database work moves between connections, table rows and queries. Keeping those pieces understandable matters as much as making the connection work, especially when a change will write real data.
The approach
plainDB brings table browsing, row inspection and SQL into one workspace. PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL and SQLite share the core experience; advanced capabilities vary by platform.

Screen descriptions
- 0:00Browse the table
The Mac app shows a connection sidebar, a table grid and a record inspector. All records shown are synthetic.
- 0:07Write and inspect SQL
A real SQL workspace pairs the query with its results, using a synthetic sample database.
- 0:14Understand the schema
The table structure view exposes columns and their types before you work with the data.
What I built.
A desktop product that joins database connectivity with the everyday details of editing, navigation and reviewing a change.
- Explore the record
- Browse tables and open a row inspector to read complete values beside the grid.
- Work with SQL
- Write queries, inspect results and keep useful statements close through saved queries and history.
- Review before a write
- Grid edits remain staged until Apply. Generated SQL can be reviewed, with row undo for supported PostgreSQL and SQLite changes.
Out in the world.
Screens use synthetic sample data. Mac and Windows share the core workflow; some advanced tools are Mac-only.
